Dog Friendly Restaurants in Lincoln, Nebraska

Look, dogs like to go out for burgers and ice cream too — and if you have a well-behaved companion who just wants to be by your side, AND is an absolute joy for others to look at, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be joining you. Luckily, there are a few businesses that agree.

Enjoying the LeadBelly patio.

LeadBelly — Lincoln Haymarket

For the dogs: The Leadbelly patio is elevated several feet above the sidewalk, making it a great spot for your dog to watch over passerby’s without being bothered. The staff is also very welcoming towards dogs — it’s rare I dine here without seeing at least one on the patio — and they will bring out a dish of water.

For you: Leadbelly is one of my favorite spots in Lincoln for both atmosphere and food — from drinks, to appetizers, to main dishes, you really can’t go wrong. My personal favorite is the Raspberry Beret burger, with whatever special Moscow Mule they’re currently making. I also love their poutine and Philly Egg Rolls to start with.

UNL Dairy Store — UNL, East Campus

For the dogs: While most Lincoln ice cream shops won’t allow your pet, the UNL Dairy Store serves ice cream to all. Whether you’re a Doberman or Bichon, you can freely walk into the east campus location and sit down for a scoop — mine enjoys a mini vanilla (and occasionally a lick of lemon custard).

For you: The Dairy Store ice creams are simpler flavors that taste fresher and creamier than most ice cream shops. They’re made by university students studying food science — a tradition that has been around for over a century. You can also get cheeses, smoothies, and espresso-based drinks. Dine in, or enjoy your treat while walking the campus grounds and garden.

I’ll be adding more restaurants to this list, as I discover them. If you have a suggestion, or know of a place that should be added, let me know in the comments. My Bichon Frise, Clooney, and I are excited to uncover more dog-friendly places in Nebraska.
