An Afternoon on Valley, Nebraska's Spruce Street
If you think the title of this article sounds like a Hallmark movie, that’s because it is — not really, but if I had to describe the charm of Spruce Street — from the shops and dining, to the people that run them — that would be the most accurate depiction.
Wander through The Gallery by Wendy Deane — a contemporary and abstract artist whose Gallery & Loft have been featured on HGTV. Right now, her gallery is decorated with differently themed Christmas trees, with hundreds of gift baskets scattered all around — all of which are available for purchase. It’s a great one stop shop for holiday themed Christmas gifts.
During the rest of the year, one can rent the gallery for events, like wedding brunches and other get-togethers. Don’t leave before checking out the loft…
After viewing The Gallery, head upstairs to explore Deane’s New York-like loft where she lives and works.
When we were there, she was not, however we were still able to take a tour through her apartment. During the holidays, she decorates it beautifully for Christmas — from the entertaining area, to her impeccable cream palette bedroom, it’s an absolute must see.
Grab a bite to eat at Simply Delicious — a restaurant/art gallery (owned by Wendy Deane) where one can have Sunday brunch, wine and dine (I heard they have an excellent steak!), or a light afternoon meal with their High Tea option — all while enjoying the artwork of Deane, as well as their perfectly decorated tables.
Read about my High Tea Experience here or visit their website for more information here.
Along Spruce Street are several little shops, including those that have antiques, Christmas decor, and unique gifts. My personal favorite is The Attic — it has everything one would need to properly deck out their home for the holiday season.
Not to mention, they also serve coffee and cookies — what more could one want from a small town shop?
If you’re looking for a unique experience, Valley is a wonderful town to visit anytime of the year, especially during the holidays.
Look, dogs like to go out for burgers and ice cream too — and if you have a well-behaved companion who just wants to be by your side, AND is an absolute joy for others to look at, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be joining you. Luckily, there are a few businesses that agree.
