Take a Virtual Tour of These 7 Galleries and Museums
Whatever your reason for staying in, the benefits of virtual tours can be a helpful tool for both education and leisure.
Some of the following museums and galleries showcase artwork and certain exhibits, while others allow you to explore every room in the building. So settle into your couch, and explore some of the world’s finest treasures.
Musée d’Orsay, Paris
Take a walkthrough tour of this former railway station turned art gallery, or scroll through their online gallery featuring various works from Van Gogh and Monet. The collections displayed in this museum occupy the time period of 1848-1914.
Louvre, Paris
No one has time to fully explore the Louvre (unless you have hundreds of days to spare), but with the opportunity to explore a little bit of it from home, you can cover a few rooms, including the Egyptian Antiquities.
Anne Frank House, Amsterdam
Though I have been to Amsterdam, I didn’t get a chance to visit the Anne Frank House. Luckily, The Secret Annex can be thoroughly explored online. With in depth explanation and diary excerpts, it does not disappoint.
American Museum of Natural History, New York City
Have yourself a Night at the Museum, like Ben Stiller. Work your way through 33 million species and artifacts by visiting temporary exhibits and permanent galleries like Hayden Planetarium and the prehistoric window exhibits.
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
Explore the Dutch Golden Age by taking a virtual tour of the Rijksmuseum. You can wander the halls and view a very large portion of their artwork, however the museum highlight is Vermeer’s Milkmaid.
Tate Britain, London
In addition to their lovely collection of Romanticism pieces, they also feature interviews with those from the world of cooking, film, fashion, music, etc. on how the art has inspired their craft. One of which is The Dark Night’s Christopher Nolan.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City
Every room in The Met is its own work of art, but this one is a stunning view to start your tour with. Holding collections that span over 5,000 years of art, the museum is home to paintings, sculptures, fashion, and so much more.
And if you’d like to explore the museums and other destinations in an imaginative way, I recommend reading books that take you on a travel journey. One of which is Origin – the book begins in the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum of Spain, giving elaborate detail of the modern architecture and the contemporary art that fills it.
