A Weekend in San Antonio, Texas

Tex-Mex, Colonial Heritage and the famous River Walk are a few of the major staples of San Antonio, Texas.

Visit San Fernando Cathedral (Downtown)

This beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral is located in downtown San Antonio. You can walk through it or hang out on it’s green space.

We happened to show up during San Antonio’s Fiesta, so it was packed and we weren’t able to walk through. But if you do show up during this time (late April), they’ll have a huge crowning ceremony outside the cathedral, featuring food, live music and other entertainment.

Walk through the Omni La Mansión del Rio RiverWalk Hotel (River Walk)

Open courtyards and delicate architecture accompany this line of hotels, so it’s always a joy to pop in and explore them in different cities.

River Walk

Walk the river and check out the bars, restaurants, shops, entertainment and hotels. Not into walking? Take a river cruise, where they’ll take you all along the River Walk, explaining the history (including movie film locations).

I’d recommend visiting this during the day and night, because it becomes two very different places (and both are equally deserving of your time).

Eat at Durty Nelly's Irish Pub (River Walk)

Great atmosphere, food and views. Sit outside and enjoy the river. I recommend ordering the Shepard’s Pie with a local beer.

The Alamo (Short walk from River Walk)

One simply cannot go to San Antonio without visiting this iconic historical battle ground. Even if you’re not into history, it’s still an interesting structure - plus, the landscaping out back is really something to see.

Catch a San Antonio Spurs Game

If you’re in town while they’re playing, you can show up the night of and score some decent priced tickets.
