One Day in Ketchikan, Alaska
Record rainfall, Deadliest Catch and being Alaska’s first city are a few of the things Ketchikan is known for.
Here’s a travel guide for spending one day in Ketchikan:
Take a trolley tour. The trolley will take you through Ketchikan, going along the coast and making two stops.
This first stop is totem pole grounds, where you’ll get to hear totem stories and see how they’re made.
The second stop is at a wildlife reserve - the goal was to spot bears, though we didn’t see any due to unusually warm weather, but we saw many bald eagles and salmon. The ride itself provides a view of the coast (where you’ll likely spot whales or orcas) and a history of Ketchikan.
Try local salmon. This little shop has tons of salmon samples. We may have stopped here a few times, and ending up bringing some back with us. If you’re planning to bring packaged salmon back from Alaska, this is probably your best bet - the pricing and variety is great.
Wander through Creek Street. Once the red light district, Creek Street is now home to several novelty shops that sit upon a waterway. You may even spot a few seals roaming the area.
